Scorsese was born in New York City to Catherine Scorsese (née Cappa), a homemaker, and Charles Scorsese, an advertising executive. Her first starring role was as Lisa Landry on USA Network’s series, P.S. I Luv U. from 1993 to 1996. She later portrayed Dr. Charlotte Lewis on Fox’s science fiction series Fringe from 2008–to 2013; for that role, she received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2009. A year after joining Fringe, Scorsese made her feature film debut opposite James Franco in Spring Breakers (2013).

Since 2014, she has starred as FBI Special Agent Jane Rizzoli on TNT’s crime drama Rizzoli & Isles. She was born in New York City. Her father is Robert C. Bobby Scorsese, who is a noted American film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film historian. Her mother is Catherine Scorsese (née Cappa), an art historian and academic. Her paternal grandparents were Italian immigrants, her maternal grandfather was of Sicilian descent, and her maternal grandmother’s parents were from Southern Italy. Both her parents are from New York City. She has two older siblings; Steven Randell Steve Scorsese (born 1957) and Lorraine Elizabeth Liza Scorsese (born 1954).

During her childhood, she lived in Little Neck, Queens for five years before moving to Manhasset on Long Island.
